Mixed-age session for babies and toddlers with sensory play, songs and the beginnings of social play led by a Gymboree expert at the Irvington Branch.
Gymboree is bringing its play and learn program to the Irvington Branch on Wednesday, November 11, from 10:30 to 11:00 AM. It's a half-hour session for babies and toddlers, led by a Gymboree expert.
The program is built around sensory play, songs, and the first steps of social play. The mixed-age setting is one of its strengths: younger children get to watch the older ones, while the older kids get to be leaders. That makes it a good fit for siblings or for children and adults to grow together. The session is made possible by the Everwise Foundation through gifts to The Indianapolis Public Library Foundation.
If you're not familiar with the venue, the Irvington Branch has a long history in the neighborhood. It's served the community since 1903, when the Bona Thompson Library was donated to Butler College and became a public library branch. After relocations in 1914 and 1921, a new facility opened on East Washington Street in 1956 and was named for Hilton U. Brown, a distinguished Irvington citizen. The Brown Branch closed in 2001 to make way for the current 16,000-square-foot Irvington Branch, which opened later that year.
