Sneak peek of the musical 'Moses Man: Finding Home' by writer Deborah Haber, presented by JCC Indianapolis as part of the 28th Annual Ann Katz Festival of Books & Arts.
Deborah Haber brings a sneak peek of her musical Moses Man: Finding Home to the Indianapolis Art Center on Sunday, November 15, from 7 PM to 9 PM. It's a multimedia presentation, so you'll get more than just a readingโshe'll be walking through the work with visuals to go along with it.
The story is a personal one. Moses Man follows Haber's own parents, Holocaust survivors who fled Vienna during Hitler's annexation and spent nine years moving across Europe before they finally found refuge in America. It's a long, winding journey that takes nearly a decade to resolve, and the musical tracks that path. Haber describes it as a way of shining a light on the past while connecting it to the contemporary refugee experience, so it's as much about the present as it is about the history.
This particular showing is presented by JCC Indianapolis as part of the 28th Annual Ann Katz Festival of Books & Arts, in partnership with Indiana University and the Herbert Simon Family Foundation. Because it's a sneak peek, it's a first look at the material rather than a full production. You'll hear the music and see the story as Haber presents it herself, which gives you a sense of the work before it goes on to a larger stage.
