Weekly Tuesday sensory-friendly storytime for babies, toddlers and preschoolers and their families at the Wayne Branch Library.
Meet & Play is back at the Wayne Branch Library on Tuesday, November 5, from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM. It's a sensory-friendly storytime for babies, toddlers, and preschoolers, and it's part of the library's wider family storytime programming. If you've got little ones at home, it's a good way to get them around other kids and into books early on.
The sensory-friendly part is the key here. It means the session is designed with kids who might get overwhelmed by loud noises or bright lights in mind, so it's a bit more relaxed than a typical storytime. It's built for babies, toddlers, and preschoolers, and their families, so you'll find a mix of ages in the room.
The library itself has a bit of a history. The Wayne Branch first opened in December 1969 in a shopping center at 7341 Rockville Road. That storefront was enlarged in 1973, and in 1984 it moved into the permanent 13,500-square-foot building it still occupies today. In 2020, it went through a $1.1 million renovation that added seating, activity space, study rooms, and a quiet reading area, all while keeping its split design with separate children's and adult wings. Meet & Play happens in the children's wing, which is where the family storytime programming lives.
