Kids ages 6-12 design and create custom magnetic bookmarks while learning how magnets work, part of the library's Summer Reading Program.
Marvelous Magnetic Bookmarks is coming to the Fort Ben Branch on Wednesday, November 11, from 4:30 PM to 5:30 PM. It's a hands-on session for kids ages 6 to 12, who'll spend the hour designing and making their own custom magnetic bookmarks while picking up a bit about how magnets actually work. The whole thing is part of the library's Summer Reading Program, tucked into the Art, Crafts and Hobbies stream.
If you haven't spent much time there, the Fort Ben Branch is a 22,000-square-foot library at 9330 East 56th Street. The land it sits on has a bit of local history: it was decommissioned and transferred from the U.S. military to the City of Indianapolis in the 1990s before the branch opened. It's also the first library branch in Indiana to become a Certified Autism Center, an international accreditation through the IBCCES. And there's a rooftop solar photovoltaic system that provides around 80% of the building's electricity, so it's running on a good amount of its own power.
