Open-to-all-ages workshop led by artists Vanessa Monfreda and Gina Lee Robbins to create pages for a collaborative art book marking the 250th anniversary of the United States.
Making Together is a collaborative collage book project happening at the Glendale Branch of the Indianapolis Public Library on Monday, November 9, from 6 PM to 8 PM. It's led by artists Vanessa Monfreda and Gina Lee Robbins, and the whole point is to build a single book together, page by page, rather than everyone working on their own separate thing.
The project is tied to the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States, and the pages you make will be part of a larger book reflecting on civic life and the shared American experience. Monfreda and Robbins guide the session around themes like community, freedom, and your own personal American experience, so you'll have a starting point to work from. All the materials are provided, though you can bring your own photos, magazines, or personal records if you have something specific you want to include—just keep in mind that anything you donate won't be returned.
One of the best parts is what happens after the session. Once the book is finished, it'll be exhibited and then added to the library's permanent collection, so your contribution stays in the building long after the night is over. It's open to all ages, which makes it an easy one to bring a kid or a friend along for.
