Introductory workshop in which participants learn the basics of needle felting to create their own 3D felt animals under the guidance of Jared Hart.
Jared Hart is teaching a 3D needle felting workshop at the Michigan Road Branch on Wednesday, November 11, from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM. If you've never tried it, needle felting is basically sculpting with wool: you use a special barbed needle to poke loose fibers until they tangle and compress into a solid shape. Hart will walk you through the basics, and by the end of the session, you'll leave with a felt creature of your own.
The project is open-ended, so you can shape and decorate an animal—real or imagined—rather than following a strict pattern. You'll work under Hart's guidance to build the form and add the details, and you'll walk out with whatever you've spent the afternoon making. It's a good entry point if you've been curious about the craft but didn't know where to start.
The class is open to ages 13 and older, and space is limited, so it's worth grabbing a spot early. It's made possible by Danny & Debbie Dean and the Danny R. Dean Fund.

As for the location, the Michigan Road Branch is a 20,000-square-foot library that opened in December 2018. It was built to expand access to library services and collections, with dedicated spaces for children, teens, and adults, more computers than the older branches, and a large community room. You'll find it at 6201 North Michigan Road, Indianapolis, IN 46268. The workshop runs from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM on Wednesday, November 11.
