A Veterans Day exhibition exploring Indiana's military history with hands-on activities and a concert by The Indianapolis Municipal Band.
Heroes from the Heartland runs at The Indiana State Museum and Historic Sites on Sunday, November 8, from 10 AM to 4 PM. It's a day built around honoring Hoosier veterans who've served the country, and the museum is using its own collection to tell that story.
The center of the day is the Heroes from the Heartland display, which pulls together artifacts from the museum's archives to trace Indiana's military history. It's not just a static exhibit, either: the curator of history will be on hand to talk through the pieces, and there are hands-on activities and resources provided by community partners for you to work through. If you've got kids with you, those interactive parts make it a bit easier to keep them engaged while you're taking in the history.
Later in the afternoon, the music takes over. The Indianapolis Municipal Band plays a Veteran's Day concert starting at 3 PM, so you can spend the morning with the exhibits and stay for the performance. It's a good way to see two different sides of the day in one go.
