First Friday gallery opening with five new shows, the annual Winter Window Walk, a dance performance, a film screening, and food from the Indi Taco food truck.
The Harrison Center hosts its First Friday gallery opening on Friday, November 6, from 6 PM to 9 PM, with six new shows across its galleries. Kyle Ragsdale takes the Harrison Gallery and Gallery Annex with Magic Mountain, Justin Vining is in the City Gallery with Seasons Shift, and Josh Rush fills the Speck Gallery with Orbital Plein. The Indiana Plein Air Painters Association takes the Underground Gallery, Chad Campbell shows Strings Attached in Hank & Dolly's Gallery, and Quincy Owens presents Remnants and Fractures in the Sky Gallery.
Beyond the galleries, the night brings back the Winter Window Walk, the center's annual tradition of turning sidewalk-level windows into imaginative displays—this year's theme is Candy Shoppe. In the Historic Gymnasium, the Herron High School Dance Ensemble performs a piece inspired by Ragsdale's work, and the Sky Gallery doubles as a screening room for Pioneers of Lockerbie Square: The Revival of Indianapolis's Oldest Neighborhood, an oral history project by the Lockerbie Square Neighborhood Foundation. If you're hungry, the Indi Taco food truck will be on site.
The Harrison Center is a community-based nonprofit founded in 2001 that houses more than 40 artists' studios and eight galleries, and has been the Indianapolis home of Naptown Roller Derby since 2006. It's supported by the Indy Arts Council, the City of Indianapolis, the Indiana Arts Commission, Lilly Endowment Inc., and the Allen Whitehill Clowes Charitable Foundation. First Friday is its signature opening night, and the Winter Window Walk is its annual tradition of turning sidewalk-level windows into imaginative displays.
