Long-form improvised comedy show in which the ComedySportz cast weaves audience-suggested lines into the tale of Ichabod Crane and the Headless Horseman.
Headless Horseman Unscripted plays The Wit Theater on Friday, October 23, and again on Friday, October 30, both nights starting at 10 PM. It's part of the theater's Unscripted Classics series, where they take a well-known story and rebuild it live on stage using suggestions from the audience.
Before the show starts, you'll be asked to write down quotes, song lyrics, and other lines of dialogue. The cast then has to work those specific lines into the story of Ichabod Crane and his headless nemesis. Because the audience provides the building blocks, the plot takes a different shape every night—no two performances are the same. The company describes the result as less scary than gleefully, hilariously off-the-rails, and since it's all made up on the spot, you're seeing something that will never happen exactly that way again.
The Wit Theater is the Indianapolis home for unscripted comedy made for grown-ups, with story-driven long-form improv, fast improvised game shows, and these Unscripted Classics. The company behind it, ComedySportz, opened in February 1993 at Theatre on the Square in Fountain Square, spent 21 years on Mass Ave, and now plays on Shelby Street as one branch of CSz Worldwide, a troupe that performs in more than 25 cities.

Both shows run at 10 PM, so it's a late-night outing. The theater is at 3808 Shelby St, Suite 1, in the Fountain Square area, and there are no food or drink minimums—they serve LaRocca's Pizza on site if you want to eat while you watch. It's recommended for ages 17 and over.
