Exhibition of 134 works by 37 Black diasporic artists from the collection of Swizz Beatz and Alicia Keys, alongside the couple's own instruments.
Giants: Art from the Dean Collection of Swizz Beatz and Alicia Keys is on view at Newfields through February 28, 2027. It's a large-scale exhibition—134 objects by 37 Black artists—drawn from the private collection Kasseem Dean, better known as Swizz Beatz, and Alicia Keys have built over two decades. The show is housed in the Penny and Jock Fortune Suite of Contemporary Galleries at the Indianapolis Museum of Art.
The collection focuses on artists from the Black diaspora, and the way it's presented gives you a sense of how it grew. The exhibition is organized into three sections: On the Shoulders of Giants, Giant Conversations, and Giant Presence. Alongside the art, the couple has included their own instruments—Keys' keyboard and Beatz's turntables—which frames the whole thing as a window into the origins of their music-making. Two 2024 portraits of the couple by Kehinde Wiley, Portraits of Alicia Keys Dean and Kasseem Daoud Dean, are also on view.
Behind the scenes, the show was organized by the Brooklyn Museum and curated by Kimberli Gant and Indira A. Abiskaroon, with Belinda Tate, the Melvin & Bren Simon Director of the Indianapolis Museum of Art at Newfields, serving as coordinating curator. A fully illustrated catalogue of the exhibition has been published by Phaidon.
