Fountain Square Canvas and Wine is hosting a painting session at Red Lion Grog House on Sunday, October 25, from 12 PM to 3 PM. The subject for this one is a Mushroom Ghost, and it's part of their series of beginner-friendly paint-and-sip classes held at local restaurants. The whole point is that you buy your own drinks and food from the venue's menu while you paint, so it's as much about the pub atmosphere as it is about the art.
Red Lion Grog House is right in the heart of the Fountain Square arts district at 1043 Virginia Avenue, and they're known for old English cuisine with a huge selection of imported beers and fine wines. Since you're buying your own food and drinks from their menu, you can tailor the afternoon to whatever you're in the mood for—a full lunch and a pint, or just a glass of wine to sip on while you work.
On the painting side, a professional artist guides the group step-by-step, so you don't need any prior experience to walk in and finish a piece. They provide all the materials: a 16x20 canvas, an apron, brushes, and paints. You just show up and follow along. One thing to keep in mind is that no outside food or drink is allowed, so you'll be ordering everything from the Red Lion's own menu. If you're driving, there's free street parking along Virginia Avenue and throughout Fountain Square.
