Free monthly book discussion of 'The Midnight Library' by Matt Haig with the First Monday Book Club at the Wayne Branch of the Indianapolis Public Library.
The First Monday Book Club meets at the Wayne Branch Library on Monday, November 9, from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM. This month's pick is The Midnight Library by Matt Haig, a novel about a library between life and death where every book represents a life you could have lived if you'd made different choices. It's a story that asks what actually makes a life worth living, and it's the kind of book that usually sparks a long conversation.
If you haven't heard of the club, it's a monthly book discussion run by the Wayne Branch of the Indianapolis Public Library. It's free and open to adults, so you don't need to be part of any formal group to show up—you just bring your copy of the book and join in. The club is part of the branch's regular programming, and it's a good way to get a group discussion going around a single title each month.
The Wayne Branch itself has been around since December 1969, when it first opened in a shopping center at 7341 Rockville Road. The storefront was enlarged in 1973, and in 1984 it moved into the permanent 13,500-square-foot building it still occupies today at 198 South Girls School Road. A $1.1 million renovation in 2020 added more seating, activity space, study rooms, and a quiet reading area, while keeping the split design of separate children's and adult wings.
