Free exhibit of Dia de Muertos altars and art, including ofrendas from community organisations and work from West Deanery students, at the Eiteljorg Museum.
The Eiteljorg Museum is hosting its Dia de Muertos Community Altar and Art Exhibit from October 10 through November 2, 2026. It's a free exhibition, and since it runs for nearly a month, you've got plenty of time to swing by whenever it fits your schedule.
If you're not familiar, Día de Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is celebrated mainly in Mexico and across Latin America as a time when families remember and honor their departed loved ones. The Eiteljorg frames the tradition around its Indigenous roots and fills its galleries with art that marks the occasion. The centerpieces are the altars, or ofrendas, built to set the stage for the arrival of the dearly departed. Around them, you'll find masks, sugar skulls (calaveras), paper flowers (cempasuchil), and digital outputs.
The altars are curated by community organizations and Arte Mexicano en Indiana, and the display is rounded out by work from students of the West Deanery Unified Catholic Schools. It's a community-driven show, so much of what you'll see comes from local hands rather than a single artist.
