Free session at the Glendale Branch of the Indianapolis Public Library that uses specialised gear to simulate life with dementia and raise awareness.
Dementia Live comes to the Indianapolis Public Library, Glendale Branch on Wednesday, October 28, from 4 PM to 4:45 PM. It's not a talk or a presentation, but an experiential session that uses specialized gear to simulate what it's like to live with dementia.
If you've never heard of it, the setup is designed to give you a first-hand sense of the constant struggles people with the condition face every day. By putting you in a safe, controlled environment and using gear that mimics the sensory and cognitive challenges of dementia, it moves the conversation from something you read about to something you actually feel. The goal is to build a deeper awareness of those daily frustrations, which the organizers say leads to more sensitive care partnering.
It's a short session—just 45 minutes—so it's easy to fit into a weekday afternoon. The session is aimed at seniors, educators, and adults, so it's a good fit whether you're a caregiver, a teacher, or just someone who wants to better understand what a loved one might be going through. If you've spent time around people living with dementia, it's one way to put a name to the things you've noticed; if you haven't, it's a way to get a glimpse of a world that's usually invisible to those on the outside.
