Workshop led by Dusty Rademacher of Light in the Dark on the process of dying, hospice care and grief, with optional registration.
Death & Dying 101 is coming to the Lawrence Branch of the Indianapolis Public Library on Saturday, November 14, from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM. It's a workshop led by Dusty Rademacher, who works under the name Light in the Dark. Rademacher is a death doula, a licensed social worker, and an educator—someone who spends their days supporting families through some of life's most tender and challenging moments. If you've ever felt like you didn't have the words or the tools for when things get hard, this is exactly the kind of space where those things get talked about out loud.
The session walks through the process of dying, the logistics and financial steps of preparing, and how hospice care works. From there, it moves into the journey of grief and loss. It's a broad sweep of a subject that most of us avoid until we have to deal with it, so having it laid out in one place can take a lot of the guesswork and anxiety out of the equation. You can ask your questions either anonymously or aloud, which is a nice touch if you're not the type to raise your hand in a room full of strangers.

Registration is optional, though the library says it helps them plan ahead. If you're interested, you can sign up at https://attend.indypl.org/event/17256739. The library is also pointing toward related resources on death doulas, death cafes, and end-of-life care, as well as perspectives on death and dying, picture books about grief and loss, and Loving & Losing Grandparents for Kids—so if the workshop opens up more questions than it answers, there's plenty to dig into afterward. The session runs from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM on Saturday, November 14, at the Lawrence Branch, 7898 Hague Road.
