Free Spanish-language computer basics classes for seniors and adults, covering an introduction to computers, the internet, email and Microsoft Office, taught by Michael and Suzanne Burley.
Clases básicas de computación are coming to the Fort Ben Branch of the Indianapolis Public Library on Saturday, November 14, from 10:30 AM to 12 PM. It's a basic computer class taught in Spanish, aimed at seniors and adults who want to get comfortable with the essentials. Michael and Suzanne Burley are the ones leading it.
The curriculum covers the ground-up basics: an introduction to computers, how to navigate the internet, and setting up an email account. From there, it moves into the tools most of us use every day—Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, along with Google Docs. The whole point is to help you gain confidence with your devices and the programs you'll need to get things done.
The Fort Ben Branch itself is worth a mention if you've never been. It's a 22,000-square-foot library in a building the city took over in the 1990s after the land was decommissioned from the U.S. military. It's the first library branch in Indiana to become a Certified Autism Center™, an international accreditation through the IBCCES, and its rooftop solar photovoltaic system provides around 80% of the building's electricity. It's a quiet, bright spot on the north side.
