Latinx Pride's first book club evening to discuss The Intrigue, with a hands-on bookmark-making session and a reader kit with each ticket.
Latinx Pride is hosting its first-ever book club event on Tuesday, October 27, at 6151 Central Ave Ste 120 in Indianapolis. They're partnering with Vital Chapter and Chingon Legacy for the evening, and the book on the table is The Intrigue by Silvia Moreno-Garcia, which they describe as a captivating historical fiction drama. The night is split between a group discussion of the book and a hands-on bookmark-making session, so you'll spend half the time talking through the story and the other half getting creative with your own copy.
Vital Chapter is a local Indianapolis initiative run by Liz Ballesteros, and this event fits right into what she's building. Her mission is to grow the state's Latine reading community by celebrating diverse stories and bridging the gap between languages: introducing Spanish-speaking readers to works translated into Spanish, and inviting English-speaking readers to discover narratives translated from Spanish into English. Right now, the shop operates through local pop-up shops, with the goal of opening a permanent brick-and-mortar space.

One of the best parts is that you don't need to bring your own book. Every ticket comes with a reader kit that includes The Intrigue, annotating tabs, highlighters, and a Booklog, so you're set to read and mark up the pages before you even arrive. The evening also includes free refreshing drinks and light finger foods to keep you going through the discussion and the crafting. It runs from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM, and tickets are $35.
