Forty-fourth annual juried exhibition of watercolor works by artists from across Indiana at the Indianapolis Museum of Art at Newfields.
The Watercolor Society of Indiana is back at Newfields with its 44th Annual Juried Exhibition, running from August 28 through October 25, 2026. You'll find it in the Bret Waller Gallery, inside the Indianapolis Museum of Art.
This is a long-running tradition. For more than four decades, the society's annual juried show has brought together watercolor artists from across the state. The society itself was founded to support watercolor artists and encourage public appreciation of the medium, and its membership includes artists, students, and patrons throughout Indiana. Each year, a guest juror selects the works that make the cut, and the resulting collection tends to show the medium's full range: precise detail and transparent washes on one end, bold color, layered surfaces, and expressive brushwork on the other. It's a good way to see how different artists handle the same material.
As for the venue, the Indianapolis Museum of Art at Newfields traces its roots back to The Art Association of Indianapolis, founded on November 7, 1883. Since then, it's grown into a 152-acre cultural campus that includes Fairbanks Park, The Garden, Lilly House, and the Elder Greenhouse. The IMA is one of the ten largest and oldest general art museums in the United States, so the gallery is part of a pretty substantial art complex.
