Concert by the acclaimed country-soul duo The War And Treaty, featuring Michael and Tanya Trotter, at The Heights Theater.
The War And Treaty play The Heights Theater on Saturday, October 31. The husband-and-wife duo of Michael and Tanya Trotter have been performing together for more than a decade, and they're bringing two special guests along for the night: Blank Page and Jordan Babbs.
If you haven't come across them yet, the duo's sound is rooted in country and soul, and they've spent the last few years pushing well beyond those origins. They've picked up nominations from the Academy of Country Music, the Country Music Association, and the GRAMMYs, and the Americana Music Association named them Duo/Group of the Year for two consecutive years. The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, the Grand Ole Opry, and the Americana Music Association have all given them their stamp of approval, and they've earned a reputation for standing ovations.
Their latest album features a wide range of guest artists, including Whoopi Goldberg, Kenneth 'Babyface' Edmonds, Wynonna Judd, and Valerie June. Much of what they do comes from a shared upbringing listening to classic country and Memphis soul, and their songs often work through the tension between sacred sounds and secular desires. It's a good way to get a sense of where they're coming from—two distinct traditions meeting in the middle.
