Futurebirds perform live on their Far Out Country Tour, with special guest Arts Fishing Club, at The Heights Theater in Houston.
Futurebirds are playing The Heights Theater on Wednesday, December 9, as part of their Far Out Country tour. They're bringing along Arts Fishing Club as the special guest for the night, so there's two acts on the bill.
The tour is built around their new double album, Far Out Country, which came out on Dualtone Records. The band describes it as a conversation about life's moving targets, and it follows their 2024 release, Easy Company. For the record, they went back to Grammy winner Brad Cook, who produced it; half the songs were cut live-in-the-studio at Sonic Ranch in Texas, and drummer Tom Myers produced four more in smaller studios. The collection is split into two halves—Volume I (The Day World) and Volume II (The Night World)—and first came out as a double-vinyl.
Futurebirds formed at the University of Georgia, where Carter King, Thomas Johnson, and Daniel Womack met as students. The Athens, Georgia band now includes bassist Brannen Miles and drummer Tom Myers. Critics have called them "the most captivating rock act touring today" (Rolling Stone) and have likened their sound to a mix of Neil Young and Crazy Horse and My Morning Jacket (USA Today).
