Hayes Carll presents his annual Grateful for Christmas tour with The Gulf Coast Orchestra, with special guest Calder Allen.
Hayes Carll kicks off his annual Grateful for Christmas tour at The Heights Theater on Friday, December 4, with his band, The Gulf Coast Orchestra. This Houston date opens the run, which he describes as a chance to share songs, swap stories and spread holiday cheer. He's joined by special guest Calder Allen.
Carll is more than two decades into an Americana career that has earned him Americana Music Awards and a Grammy nomination. The New York Times has compared his ability to tackle tough issues with wry humor to that of Bob Dylan, and a string of Nashville stars—among them Kenny Chesney, Lee Ann Womack and Brothers Osborne—have recorded his songs. The Gulf Coast Orchestra provides the full-band sound for this tour, and the Christmas framing is a recurring tradition for him rather than a one-off.
Calder Allen opens the bill. An Austin-born, fifth-generation Texan, he is the grandson of Terry and Jo Harvey Allen. His album Fault Lines was recorded at Arlyn Studios with Charlie Sexton and Jacob Sciba.
