The fifth edition of the local comedy contest where 72 comedians compete for the title of Funniest Person in Houston, with audience voting and crowd work.
The Riot Comedy Club is hosting the fifth edition of Funniest Person in Houston (FPiH) on Thursday, October 29, at 7 PM. It's a local comedy contest where the audience decides the winner: you get two votes to help crown the city's funniest comedian, and there's plenty of crowd work to expect throughout the night. This year, 72 comedians are competing for the title.
The contest is run by The Riot, which is Houston's busiest comedy room, founded by Brian Gendron. For years, the club operated upstairs at Rudyard's in Montrose, but in August 2026 it moved into its own 4,700-square-foot, purpose-built 150-seat showroom in the Old Sixth Ward, right next to Julep, the James Beard Award-winning cocktail bar. The club runs stand-up seven nights a week, usually with shows at 7 PM and 9 PM, and positions itself as the neighborhood-club alternative to the Houston Improv and Punch Line.
Every week we pick 🏆 the 5 best 🏆 things to do in Houston and send them to your inbox. Just one weekly email, no spam.

Most of the club's tickets fall in the $8 to $25 range, and many of the weeknight shows are free. Rather than relying on a single comic for ninety minutes, the room leans on tightly curated showcases. FPiH is one of those curated nights, with the audience taking the lead on who walks away with the title. The show is at The Riot Comedy Club, 1925 Washington Ave, Houston, TX 77007, in the Old Sixth Ward, on Thursday, October 29, at 7 PM.
