University of Houston School of Theatre and Dance student production of Neil Simon's farce 'Rumors'.
The University of Houston School of Theatre and Dance is putting on Neil Simon's Rumors at the Lyndall Finley Wortham Theatre on Friday, October 30, at 7:30 PM. It's a student production, with the roles filled by students from UH's theater program and directed by Zack Steele.
If you're not familiar with the play, it's a classic farceโthe kind of show that runs on gags, twists, and a whole lot of people talking over each other. The plot kicks off when Chris and Ken Gorman arrive at a fancy dinner party for their friend Charley Brock, the deputy mayor of New York City. They find him in a bit of a state: he's had an accident involving a shotgun and his earlobe, a detail that could seriously damage his reputation. As the other guests start trickling in, the group conspires to cover it up, and the cover-up unravels into the kind of chaos that makes a farce work. Simon also pulls from his own life for this one, weaving in the challenges and comforts of married life between the laughs.
