A trick-or-treat party for children with music, candy stations and a Halloween-themed Jack and the Beanstalk show.
Children's Museum Houston is turning into the Halloween Happy House on Thursday, October 29, for a free trick-or-treat party for kids. The museum, which usually spends its days as a 90,000-square-foot playground of science, environment, culture, math, and arts exhibits, shifts gears for the night into a safe, friendly space for children to celebrate Halloween. They encourage kids to come in costume, and the whole evening is billed as Houston's ultimate Halloween party for kids.
The night runs on two tracks. Throughout the evening, there are five candy stations scattered around the museum for trick-or-treating, and Radio ONE's DJs keep the music going while monstrous characters roam the halls. If you're there early, you can spend the first few hours working your way through the stations. The second half of the night centers on a specific performance: a Halloween-themed hip-hop version of Jack and the Beanstalk, presented by The Ensemble Theatre. It runs at 6:30 PM in the Brown Auditorium, so if you want to catch the show, you'll want to time your trick-or-treating around it.
For a bit of context on the venue, Children's Museum Houston is a 501(c)(3) that calls itself "A Playground for Your Mind." It's a heavy hitter in the children's museum worldโit holds a Candid Platinum Seal of Transparency and a Four Star Charity rating, and in 2026 it was named a must-visit children's museum by Parents, one of the best children's museums in the U.S. by Travel + Leisure, and a winner by Charity Navigator. The Happy House is their way of opening those doors to the community for a free, family-friendly night.
