Rayland Baxter performs his album True Violet at The Heights Theater, blending alternative country and Americana with folk and rock influences.
Rayland Baxter plays The Heights Theater on Thursday, February 25, 2027. He's touring his latest album, True Violet, which follows 2022's If I Were a Butterfly.
Baxter comes from Bon Aqua, Tennessee, and writes a mystic, grounded blend of alternative country and Americana. His songs lean on evocative melodies and personal storytelling, weaving together folk, rock, and a Beatlesque pop sensibility. True Violet marks a shift in how he works: he wrote the record alone with just his guitar, after his sister encouraged him to write about what he was feeling. It's also the first Rayland Baxter album made without his father, Bucky Baxter—the multi-instrumentalist best known for his work with Bob Dylan and as a member of Steve Earle and The Dukes—whose musicianship and encouragement had shaped every previous chapter of his career. His sister became an essential presence in both his life and his creative process during this one.
He's built a body of work around that same storytelling, with acclaimed albums including Imaginary Man, Wide Awake, If I Were a Butterfly, and now True Violet, and songs like "Yellow Eyes" and "Olivia" along the way. The Houston date is part of the tour for the new record, and the show is open to all ages.
