A live show featuring film critic Gregg Turkington and comedian Tim Heidecker as Dr. Newman, offering movie information and alternative education.
Gregg Turkington and Tim Heidecker bring On Cinema to The Heights Theater on Sunday, November 15, as part of the Certified Five Bags of Popcorn Tour. If you've followed the series, you know the setup: movie expert Gregg Turkington pairs his award-winning cinema knowledge with the health and body improvements of wellness guru Dr. Newman, played by Heidecker. The evening is billed as movie information and alternative education, and that's pretty much the whole thing—the two of them on stage together, each sticking to his own particular lane.
It's a live version of the On Cinema format, so you'll get Turkington on the movie side and Heidecker as Dr. Newman on the wellness side. The two characters rarely cross over in a way that makes much sense, which is exactly where the comedy comes from. The Houston stop is presented by The Heights Theater, a venue built in the 1920s that was renovated and reopened in 2016 as a live music space. It's an all-ages show, so you can bring whoever you want.
