Country and Americana artist Joshua Ray Walker performs with special guest John Baumann, followed by a screening of the documentary 'Thank You For Listening'.
Joshua Ray Walker plays The Heights Theater on Thursday, December 10, with special guest John Baumann and a screening of the documentary Thank You For Listening. It's a full evening: the film, the opening act, and Walker himself.
Walker is a Dallas-born Country and Americana songwriter known for vivid, character-driven storytelling and a rich tenor that blends classic Texas tradition with a modern emotional edge. Since his 2019 debut, he's played more than 2,000 shows across the U.S. and Europe, with national television appearances and multiple Grand Ole Opry performances along the way. His sixth album, Ain't Dead Yet, was recorded before, during, and after cancer treatment. On stage, he plays guitar in a band that includes pedal steel, drums, and bass.
Thank You For Listening is a documentary co-directed by Gene Gallerano and Bob Ray in association with Texas Monthly. It chronicles Walker's journey making East Dallas country music while battling third-generation cancer and planning his return to the Grand Ole Opry. The special guest is Austin songwriter John Baumann, who draws on storytelling greats like Townes Van Zant, Guy Clark, and Lyle Lovett; his album Border Radio was noted by Kenny Chesney, who recorded a version of Baumann's "Gulf Moon."
