Multidisciplinary artist Jamire Williams presents a three-channel video installation activated live with drums, voice, samplers and synthesizers.
Jamire Williams brings Scattered to the Ends of the Earth to Aurora Picture Show on Saturday, October 17, from 7 PM to 8:30 PM. It's the inaugural commission in Aurora's Ghost Notes program, and it's a home-city showing for Williams, a Houston multidisciplinary artist.
The piece is a three-channel video installation, built from fragments of archival film footage that Williams has reassembled. But it's not a static screening: the installation is activated live by the artist, who responds to the imagery in real time with drums, voice, samplers, and synthesizers. Because he's playing along with the footage as it unfolds, the sound changes from night to night, and the performance is as much about the live interaction as it is about the film itself.
Ghost Notes is Aurora's year-round program of screenings, media art installations, performances, artist talks, and youth workshops. The venue describes itself as a space that champions a diversity of artistic visions and creative experimentation, and it's fueled by individual donations and memberships. This commission is the first one under the Ghost Notes banner, so it's a good place to see where the program is headed.
