An interactive installation where visitors can speak and listen as voices travel through a network of light inside the historic Buffalo Bayou Park Cistern.
Undercurrents in the Cistern opens at The Water Works at Buffalo Bayou Park on Friday, October 16, running from 10 AM to 5 PM. It's an installation that asks you to speak, listen, and reflect, with voices carried through a glowing network of light that changes as people interact with it. The whole thing sits inside the historic Buffalo Bayou Park Cistern, so the environment shifts around you while you're in there.
The Water Works itself is perched right above the Cistern, giving you a clear view of the downtown Houston skyline. There's a grassy lawn that serves as a hub for community activities like fitness classes, festivals, and concerts, so it's the kind of spot where you can hang out before or after you head downstairs. An on-site Visitor Center handles Cistern tours and weekend bike rentals, and a few other things are within walking distance: the Barbara Fish Daniel Nature Play Area and the Lee & Joe Jamail Skatepark.

If you're planning to make a day of it, the Visitor Center is your best bet for getting a tour of the Cistern and sorting out a bike for the weekend. With the nature play area and the skatepark nearby, there's plenty to do around the park beyond the installation itself. Undercurrents runs from 10 AM to 5 PM at The Water Works, 105-B Sabine St, Houston, TX 77007.
