Hands-on STEM activities, the NASA Tram Tour, the SpaceX Falcon 9 and an astronaut presentation for homeschoolers and families.
Space Center Houston is hosting Home School Day on Friday, November 13, and it's one of those days that actually gives you a head start. The session opens at 8 AM, which puts you inside an hour before the center opens to the general public. If you're bringing kids, that extra hour is a real luxury—you can get your bearings and see the big stuff before the crowds roll in.
The morning is built around hands-on STEM activities, so the kids aren't just looking at displays; they're actually doing something. From there, you can work your way through the highlights. You'll board the NASA Tram Tour to see Rocket Park and the Saturn V rocket, walk right underneath the SpaceX Falcon 9, and catch an Astronaut Mission Memories presentation given by an astronaut. It's a full day that lets you hit the heavy hitters in one go.
One thing that makes this worth planning for is how it's set up. Since it's a recurring event, you're not locked into just one date. If November 13 doesn't work, there are more Home School Days on December 11, January 15, February 12, March 26, April 16, and May 28—all starting at 8 AM. And if you buy a ticket and can't make it, you can reschedule it to another Home School Day within a year, so you aren't out your money if your plans shift.
