Day of STEM activations and presentations at Space Center Houston, with talks by NASA alumni and astronaut scholar Karly Liebendorfer.
Space Center Houston is hosting National STEM Day on Sunday, November 8, from 10 AM to 4 PM. It's a day of STEM activations and special presentations, and the whole thing is included in general admission. National STEM Day is celebrated every year on November 8 to inspire the next generation to pursue careers in STEM and STEAM, and the day at Space Center Houston draws on NASA alumni and staff, many of them retired astronauts or long-serving engineers.
The main feature is a talk by Karly Liebendorfer, a 2023 Astronaut Scholar from the Florida Institute of Technology, who presents in the Mission Briefing Center at 12:30 PM. Other presentations come from NASA alumni, including Jim Wetherbee, the only astronaut to have commanded five Space Shuttle missions; Herb Baker, who retired in 2017 after 42 years at NASA; Debbie Ramos Trainor, who spent 29 years at Johnson Space Center as an international space flight training manager; and George Salazar. The day also leans on memoirs by former NASA engineers and managers whose careers spanned the Space Shuttle, the Artemis Human Lander, and the International Space Station.
