Concert by Grateful Shred, a Los Angeles band channeling the Grateful Dead's vibe, at The Heights Theater.
Grateful Shred play The Heights Theater on Sunday, November 8, 2026. They're a Los Angeles-based band that built its name on the Grateful Dead's vibe—wide-open guitar tones, three-part vocal harmonies, choogling beats, and plenty of tripped-out solos—rather than on historical re-enactment. Bassist Dan Horne describes it more as a 'take' on the Dead than a tribute band, arguing they sound more like the group because they approach the material in a free-spirited way, drawing on jazz, Americana, blues, and folk.
Their following took off after a YouTube video called 'Busted at the Bowl,' which caught the band launching an impromptu set in the Hollywood Bowl parking lot before a Dead and Company show in 2017, playing until the police shut them down. Since then, they've moved from obscurity to a national touring act. In June 2025, they released their first full studio album, Might As Well, on their own Liberty Hair Farm Records label, and they've put out a series of live releases called Dan's Dubs, mixed and mastered by Horne and available on Nugs.Net.
The lineup for this show is Austin McCutchen on vocals and guitar, Dan Horne on bass, pedal steel, and vocals, Mikaela Davis on vocals, Adam MacDougall on keys and vocals, John Lee Shannon on guitar, and Corey Rose on drums. With three singers in the mix, those three-part harmonies they're known for should be front and center. The show is all ages.
