Late-night DJ and producer set by GorillaT, who blends dubstep, trap and experimental bass, at 9PM Music Venue.
GorillaT plays 9PM Music Venue on Friday, October 23, with the set starting at 10 PM. The man behind the name is Tate Maxwell Warner, a Denver-born DJ and producer who builds his sets around a high-energy, genre-defying sound that pulls from dubstep, trap, and experimental bass. If you're not familiar with the name, that's a good place to start: it's bass-heavy electronic music that doesn't stay in one lane.
Warner didn't start with a laptop. He's been playing piano and saxophone since he was five, and he eventually moved into production. These days he studies urban/electronic music and business marketing at Loyola University of New Orleans, so there's a fair bit of formal study behind the noise. His discography includes albums like Third Eye Vision and Tales of a Stoned Ape, with tracks like "Pay Respect" and "Subject: Wonk" among them. He's also collaborated with DJ DIESEL and NGHTMRE, and his sets are billed across bass music, dubstep, riddim, and electronic.
