Gauri B: Years in the Breaking

Gauri B brings her show Years in the Breaking to White Oak Music Hall on Thursday, October 8, with the set starting at 7 PM. It's a solo stand-up night, so it's just her on stage for the full run.

If you're not familiar with her work, the title gives you a fair idea of what she's doing. The set is built around incisive jokes on politics and society, and she weaves in personal stories to ground the larger targets. It's the kind of comedy that looks at the world and then looks at where she fits into it, rather than just punching at the headlines from a distance. The personal stuff is what keeps it from feeling like a lecture—she's in the mix with the rest of us.

She's the only name on the bill, so you'll get a full set from her without an opener to warm up the room. The show is held in the Upstairs room at White Oak, which keeps the crowd closer to the stage than the main floor downstairs. If you've seen her before, this is a good chance to catch her current material in a room that's built for comedy.

It's a Thursday night, so it's a mid-week outing rather than a weekend one. The show starts at 7 PM at White Oak Music Hall - Upstairs in Houston. You can find tickets through Live Nation.
