Stand-up comedy show by Garrison Keillor, known for A Prairie Home Companion, at The Heights Theater.
Garrison Keillor is playing The Heights Theater on Saturday, November 14, 2026. It's a solo show, and the program is a bit of a variety hour: poetry, limericks, a sing-along, and the news from Lake Wobegon. If you've spent any time with public radio over the last few decades, you know the name. Keillor hosted A Prairie Home Companion for more than forty years, a show that ran coast to coast and beyond. He's also the one who invented Lake Wobegon, that fictional town where every child is above averageโa sharp contrast, he says, to his own upbringing in a small evangelical separatist flock.
Beyond the radio, he's an essayist, a columnist, and a Substack blogger who has written more than two dozen books. Some of the titles you might recognize are Lake Wobegon Days, That Time of Year: A Minnesota Life, Boom Town, Serenity at 70, Gaiety at 80, Cheerfulness, and Brisk Verse. He was trained as a jazz singer at the New England Conservatory of Music, and he still sends out The Writer's Almanac daily to his internet subscribers. He lives in New York City with his wife, Jenny.

Critics have described his style as low-key and familiar, with a gift for turning a room full of strangers into a small-town community. That's a good way to think about this show, tooโit's less a stand-up set and more a storyteller taking the stage. Doors open at 7 PM, and the show starts at 8 PM at The Heights Theater, 339 W 19th St., Houston, TX 77008.
