A night of fast-paced, unpredictable improv comedy with The Lottery, indie improv troupes, and audience participation at Station Theater.
Friday Improv Implosion is back at Station Theater on Friday, October 9, and it's the venue's signature night. The show runs every Friday through December 18, so if this one doesn't work for you, there are plenty more to choose from. The premise is simple: Houston's improvisers take the week's notable events and turn them into improvised comedy scenes on the spot.
The night is built in three acts. It opens with The Lottery, which pairs some of the city's top improvisers with brave volunteers from the theater's free Intro to Improv class. After that, one of Houston's favorite indie improv troupes takes the stage. The whole thing closes with The Implosion, where the performers take a "question of the week" straight from the audience and spin it into outrageous stories, characters, and sketches. Station Theater describes the finale as a crash landing you won't see anywhere else in Houston comedy.
Station Theater has spent more than a decade as a homegrown hub for smart, irreverent improv and sketch comedy. It's a place where students, performers, and even businesses use the power of play to spark laughs and ideas. The Implosion is their flagship Friday night, and it's a good way to see a cross-section of the local scene in one go.
