Concert by Alejandro Escovedo & The Electric Saints presenting their album Echo Dancing at The Heights Theater.
Alejandro Escovedo brings The Electric Saints to The Heights Theater on Thursday, December 17, for a show centered on his latest album, Echo Dancing. It's an all-ages night, so you can bring the kids along if you're not planning on a late one.
If you're not familiar with Escovedo, he's a Texas-born singer-songwriter who's spent decades drifting through a few different worlds. He cut his teeth in the first-wave San Francisco punk group The Nuns, moved to New York to join Judy Nylon, and later landed in Austin, where he co-founded the cowpunk band True Believers with his brother Javier and Jon Dee Graham. That range—from punk to cowpunk to Americana—is a good shorthand for how his career has moved over the years. Back in 1998, No Depression magazine named him Artist of the Decade.
Echo Dancing is a bit of a departure from the usual new record. It's an experiment in re-recording and re-imagining songs from his past, rather than starting from scratch. He recorded it with Don Antonio and Nicola Peruch, with Ivano Giovedi engineering. The show is built around that material, so you'll hear songs he's lived with for a long time, just played in a new way.
