The longest-running ghost walk in Halifax, a 1 hour 40 minute walk through historic streets with ghost stories from Nova Scotia folklore, led by Dusty Keleher.
The Halifax Ghost Walk is back on the streets this season, with tours running every night from May 1 to November 15, 2026. Each walk starts at The Old Town Clock on Citadel Hill and winds its way down to the waterfront, finishing by The Maritime Museum of the Atlantic. It's a good stretch of the city to cover on foot, and the whole thing takes about an hour and 40 minutes.
The walk is led by Dusty Keleher, who's been running it since 1990. It's the longest-running ghost walk in Halifax and the oldest in North America, so it's got a fair bit of history behind it. Keleher is a roots and traditional musician whose songs draw on ancient Irish ballads and the folk and folk-rock canon; he's the artist behind albums like The Way to Grace and The Road to Conamara, and his 2003 record Wanderers Grounds was nominated for best folk/roots record by the Music Industry of Nova Scotia. Fellow guides have called him the best tour guide they've ever had, and some have likened the experience to a one-man play.
As for what you'll hear, the walk threads Nova Scotia folklore through local history. The stories cover ghosts, spirits, forerunners and devils, pirates, hauntings and buried treasures. If you're bringing a larger group, there are bilingual tours available for private groups of ten or more, and private and school groups of seven or more run year-round, weather and guide permitting. Bookings are made directly by email only, with no third-party sites.
