Exhibition of paintings by Jacqueline Faye Miller and Peter Ollerhead at The Prow Gallery, celebrating the landscapes of Saskatchewan and Newfoundland.
The Prow Gallery is hosting Prairies to Ports, a joint exhibition by painters Jacqueline Faye Miller and Peter Ollerhead, running from September 17 to October 9. The show brings together two artists from opposite ends of the country: Miller hails from Saskatchewan and Ollerhead from Newfoundland and Labrador. They describe the exhibition as a celebration of the landscapes of their respective homes, seen through distinct but complementary perspectives, despite the thousands of kilometres that separate them.
It's a nice way to see two very different parts of Canada in one room. Miller's work looks at the wide-open prairies of Saskatchewan, while Ollerhead focuses on the rugged coastlines of Newfoundland and Labrador. Seeing them side by side lets you compare the two—the flat, expansive interior and the rocky, salt-sprayed edges—and how each artist captures the character of the place they're painting.
The Prow Gallery is located in Bishop's Landing on the Halifax waterfront, a contemporary space that shows original work by working Canadian artists. More than half of them live right here in Nova Scotia, and the gallery currently features new work from over 30 artists. There's an artist reception on September 17, which is the exhibition's opening day. After that, the show runs through October 9, so you've got a few weeks to drop in. Entry is free, and the gallery is at 1479 Lower Water Street, right on the waterfront.
