Family rock musical by Talent Studio Halifax about teens hunting the mysterious Oak Island Treasure of Nova Scotia.
Oak Island Treasure: A Family Rock Musical comes to St. Andrew's United Church on Saturday 17 October, presented by Talent Studio Halifax. It's a family rock musical that runs an hour and a half, so it's a good length for an evening out with kids without stretching too late into the night.
The story follows two teens, Daniel and Peggy, who find themselves inside a whale of a tale while hunting the mysterious Oak Island Treasure of Nova Scotia. Along the way, they cross paths with an eccentric scientist, a swash-buckling pirate, and a lady of the French aristocracy. It's built around a mix of laughter and adventure, and as the title says, it's a rock musical, so the songs drive the story forward rather than just sitting on top of it.
That music is an original score written and composed by Vladimir Sitnikov and Cheryl Edgett, both Music Nova Scotia Award nominees. Edgett was named Children's Artist of the Year in 2021, and the soundtrack was recorded at FMP Matrix by ECMA Award-winning recording engineer Scott Ferguson. Having a recorded soundtrack behind the live show usually means the sound is polished and the songs are fully fleshed out before they ever hit the stage.
