A baroque violin concert by Yolanda Bruno, with Julia Wedman and Christina Mahler, as a tribute to her mentor Jeanne Lamon, followed by a documentary screening.
Yolanda Bruno brings Dear Jeanne to St. Andrew's United Church on Saturday, December 5, at 7:30 pm. It's a baroque music programme built around her album tribute to her late teacher and mentor, the Canadian-American baroque violinist Jeanne Lamon. Bruno is joined by baroque violinist Julia Wedman and cellist Christina Mahler, both longtime artists with Tafelmusik, in a trio that works its way through music by Jean-Marie Leclair, J.S. Bach, Beth Silver and Antonio Vivaldi. At the heart of the evening is Lamon's own string trio arrangement of Bach's Ciaccona.
There's a second part to the night, too. After the concert, there's a screening of the companion documentary The Immortal Serafin, which traces the story of a 1759 violin by the Venetian luthier Santo Serafin. The whole evening has been described as equal parts moving and musically gorgeous.
