Halifax's free all-night contemporary art festival returns with the theme 'Embodied City', featuring installations, projections and live performances across the city.
Nocturne: Art at Night returns to Downtown Halifax from October 15 to 18, with the main night on Saturday, October 17, running from roughly 6:00 pm past midnight. It's Kjipuktuk / Halifax's free all-night contemporary art festival, the largest of its kind in Atlantic Canada and part of the wider Halifax Festival. For one weekend each October, it reimagines the city as a sprawling after-dark gallery, with streets, alleys, storefronts and the waterfront filled with installations, projections and live performance.
This edition's theme is Embodied City, curated by Annalise Prodor, which invites artists to explore how bodies move through, claim and reshape urban space. The programming is built to act as a catalyst for connection, and there are 79 projects in total. A few of the standouts include The Embellishers Take Nocturne 2026 by Hannah Langille, Kel Parsons, Shannyn Reid, Summer Snow and Samantha Osmond; the Festival of BodyWork at Grand Parade; The Frame in the AGNS courtyard; City You Imagined at the Granville Park stage; and Red Earth/Black Sea at the World Peace Pavilion in Ferry Terminal Park, Dartmouth.
The festival is spread across multiple venues throughout Downtown Halifax and Dartmouth, with a Nocturne Hub at the Pop Can on the Halifax Waterfront by the Salt Yard. A free festival app and printed maps guide you through the installations, so you can pick your own path through the city. The NSCAD Jewellery and Metalsmithing Students' Exhibition returns as well, a Nocturne tradition since 2016.
