An evening with Chef Pamela LeonForde, founder of Café Caye Mangé, sharing a culinary journey of migration, culture and community through Afro-Caribbean vegan dishes and music.
Chef Pamela A. LeonForde is hosting an evening at the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21 on Saturday, August 29, from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. It's called My Food Journey, and it's built around her concept Roots Without Borders: A Culinary Journey of Heritage, Healing & Home.
LeonForde is a Saint Lucian-born Afro-Caribbean vegan chef and a certified plant-based nutritionist. She's the founder of Café Caye Mangé, which holds a couple of firsts for the province: it's Nova Scotia's first Afro-Caribbean vegan restaurant and the first Black female-owned plant-based café. Before that, she left a successful corporate career to dedicate her life to helping communities heal through food.
The evening follows that Roots Without Borders theme, tracing the places, people and traditions that have shaped her life. The map runs from Saint Lucia and across Africa to England and Nova Scotia, and the food follows suit. The menu is made up of Afro-Caribbean and globally inspired vegan small dishes, with music in the room reflecting the cultural influences of the night.
