Mary Beth Carty plays Carlo Auto Service Ltd on Friday, September 25, at 7:00 PM. She's an accordionist and guitarist from Antigonish, Nova Scotia, who also plays a handful of pocket-sized instruments, and her voice earned her a nomination for Traditional Singer of the Year at the Canadian Folk Music Awards.
Her album Crossing the Causeway brings together traditional song, instrumental tunes, and originals into a multilingual record that draws on the diverse roots of her region. It features Cape Breton musicians Colin Grant, Bradley Murphy, and Donnie Calabrese, along with guest vocalists Cassie and Maggie. Her repertoire reaches across Acadian Trad, Chanson, Celtic, Accordion, Folk, and Gaelic.
She's toured across Canada and performed in Austria, Switzerland, France, Italy, Rwanda, and the DRCongo, as well as on Holland-America and NCL cruise lines, where she's known for live shows full of sing-alongs, dance jigs, and good vibes. This is a solo date, so it'll be just her on stage.
