FC21CA is coming to the George Dixon Centre on Saturday, August 1, and it's not your usual basketball tournament. The whole thing is built around one-on-five basketball, which they describe as the only tournament of its kind in the world. The premise is simple: you take on the court alone, with no teammates to lean on, facing off against five opponents at once. It's a one-versus-the-world setup that puts the spotlight squarely on the individual.
It's open to all skill levels, so you don't need to be a varsity star to get involved. The day is split up by age group, with youth mini-camps and competitive games for teens (14–17) and adults (18+), which means you can sign up whether you're just starting out or you've been playing for years. The mini-camps are a good way to get your bearings before the games start.
There's a bit of a larger story running through this one, too. FC21CA runs in over 30 cities across four continents, and Canada has a strong run going: the last four All World Champions have all come from here. The Halifax stop is framed as part of the quest for the country's seventh straight All World title, so there's some national pride on the line. If you do well, there are prizes to be won, including a trip to New York City to compete in the All World Finals.
