A day of family activities, games and a treasure hunt at the historic Georges Island National Historic Site, with picnic options available.
Family Fun Days are back at Georges Island National Historic Site this summer, with the next one coming up on Friday July 31. It's part of a six-week run that started on July 10 and keeps going through August 7 and 14, so if this Friday doesn't work, you've still got a couple more chances before the series wraps.
For those who haven't been, Georges Island is one of those hidden gems right in the centre of Halifax Harbour. It's a National Historic Site, and the real draw is the underground tunnels you can explore on a guided tour. The Family Fun Days are built around activities for all ages, with special games and a treasure hunt on the programme, so it's a good one to bring the kids along for.
Food is something to think about beforehand since you're on an island. You can pack your own picnic and find a spot to eat, or pre-order a Parks Canada Perfect Picnic from Sapori Italian Street Food to have ready for you. Either way, you'll want to have your lunch sorted before you head out.
Every week we pick ๐ the 5 best ๐ things to do in Halifax and send them to your inbox. Just one weekly email, no spam.

Getting there is the only part that costs: the island is reached by ferry from the Halifax waterfront, and you'll need to pay for the boat ride each way. Once you're on the island, the activities are free as part of the Canada Strong Pass. The days run from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm, so it's a full morning and early afternoon out on the water.
