A family-friendly day with games, a treasure hunt and guided tours of the historic underground tunnels on Georges Island.
Parks Canada is running Family Fun Days on Georges Island this summer, with the next one coming up on Friday, July 24. It's part of a series of six consecutive Fridays—July 10, 17, 24, 31 and August 7 and 14—so if you can't make this one, there are plenty more to choose from. Each day runs from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.
Georges Island is a bit of a hidden gem, sitting right in the centre of Halifax Harbour. The days are built around family activities, with games and a treasure hunt on the programme. The real draw, though, is the guided tour of the island's underground tunnels, which you can explore as part of the day. Between the games and the tours, there's plenty to keep kids busy while you take in the harbour views.
Food is on you: you can pack your own picnic or pre-order a Parks Canada Perfect Picnic from Sapori Italian Street Food. Since you're on an island, you'll need to plan for that—the site is reached by ferry from the Halifax waterfront, so you'll be taking a boat both ways. It's a nice way to spend a summer morning and afternoon, especially if you've got little ones in tow.
Every week we pick 🏆 the 5 best 🏆 things to do in Halifax and send them to your inbox. Just one weekly email, no spam.

Entry is free as part of the Canada Strong Pass, though you'll still need to pay for the ferry transportation to and from the island. The days run from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm, so you've got a good window to work with.
