An irreverent, Mel Brooks-inspired comedy that reimagines the classic gothic horror story with wordplay and rapid-fire pop culture references.
Dracula: A Comedy of Terrors is playing at the Neptune Theatre on the Fountain Hall Stage, with the run going from September 29 through October 25, 2026. It's a reimagining of the gothic horror classic, written by Gordon Greenberg and Steve Rosen and directed by Jeremy Webb.
The story follows a meek English real estate agent who travels to Transylvania to meet Dracula, while the vampire hunter Jean Van Helsing and her company chase him from the mountains through the British countryside and into London. It's an irreverent, Mel Brooks-inspired comedy that trades the usual gloom for wordplay and rapid-fire pop culture references. The whole thing runs about 90 minutes, and critics have called it a "90-minute rollercoaster of comedic chaos," "gloriously ridiculous and utterly entertaining," and "fresh, frantically paced and bloody good fun."
One of the things that stands out about the production is how much the cast does. Allie MacDonald takes on the title role of Dracula, while the rest of the company plays multiple parts: Ryan Rogerson doubles as Mina and Van Helsing; Becca Guilderson covers Lucy, Kitty, and the Driver; Stephanie MacDonald plays Dr. Westfeld, Renfield, and the Captain; and Hugh Ritchie handles Harker, the Suitors, the Bosun, and the Gravedigger. With five actors covering that many roles, the cast is constantly shifting between characters throughout the show.
