Crescendo Fest

Crescendo Fest takes over Downtown Halifax from Tuesday, July 28, to Saturday, August 1, running all day throughout. It's a multi-day festival dedicated to African Nova Scotian and Black artists from across Atlantic Canada, and the whole thing is free.

The programming is built around live performances, cultural events, workshops and community gatherings. The live music is the main draw, but the workshops and events mean there's more to it than just standing in front of a stage. It's designed as a space for both emerging and established artists to connect with audiences and share their stories, and the focus is on Black music, culture and creativity. Because it runs over several days, you can drop in for a single afternoon or spread it out across the week.

Since it's in downtown Halifax, it's easy to get to on foot or by transit, and because it's free, you don't have to commit to a ticket in advance. The festival runs from July 28 through August 1, all day, so there's plenty of room to pick and choose the days and times that work for you.
