Family Halloween day at the Museum of Natural History with costumes, puppet shows, bug cooking and a look at phobias.
The Museum of Natural History is hosting its Annual Halloween Party on Sunday, October 25, from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. It's the museum's own signature event, and they bill it as spooky but not too spooky, aimed squarely at families and children. If you've got kids at home, this is one of those days that works for the whole house without anyone getting genuinely rattled.
They encourage everyone to turn up in costume, and the day is built around a few specific activities. There are puppet shows, bug cooking, and a lighthearted look at phobias. The bug cooking is usually the one that gets the most reactions, and the phobias bit keeps things in that same territory—looking at the things that creep us out without actually crossing the line into a nightmare. It's the kind of afternoon where the kids can lean into the Halloween spirit without it becoming too much for the younger ones.
The museum itself is one of Halifax's main natural history collections, so you're spending the day inside one of the city's larger collections of the natural world. The party takes over the space for the day, and the activities are spread across the museum, so you can drift between the puppet shows and the cooking when you're ready.
